Honour the children
National Day for Truth and Reconcilliation
Honouring Our Children
September 30th is deeply personal for all who carry lived experiences connected to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDFTR).
All children are sacred, the most precious of gifts. We honour our children, by honouring a Snuneymuxw way of being.
“While what was lost can never truly be reconciled, we find focus in our responsibility to each other, the land and our Snawaylth (knowledge system).” – Chief Mike Wyse, Snuneymuxw First Nation
Gratitude and Guidance
We are grateful for the enduring guidance of the Ancestors, who continue to teach us how to rebuild and thrive. By doing our best to walk the path they left for us, we strengthen our shared future.
Our Shared Responsibilities
NDFTR, September 30th, is an opportunity to look within, deepening our understanding of the roles and responsibilities we hold. Whether contributing to Snuneymuxw’s government or businesses, we are all working to restore and reclaim Snuneymuxw’s profound position within the region and beyond.
Our Unique Gifts
As in the Longhouse, each person has an important role to play, with unique gifts to share. Within Snuneymuxw organizations, our work lives in relationship with Nation building, the brilliance of the Ancestors, and a future where the land thrives with the people.
Economic and Political Reconciliation in Action
The Snuneymuxw government and its businesses are restoring Snuneymuxw’s role in creating opportunities for all people connected to the territory and Nation. We are strengthening the Nation’s political and economic sovereignty together.
